Texting and Driving

I can't believe it's been two weeks since my last post. The whole point of creating this blog has been to keep abreast of my goings on, right? Mostly, non-walk related, but a couple major hiccups, so it kept me busy and very preoccupied.

Two Fridays ago, I had a blow out on my right front tire. Normally, it's scary enough, but this particular time, not only was it scary, but a threat to my upcoming vacation in Destin, Florida. Adam and I took Pia for her first perm, and it came out beautifully! We went to my Grandmother's to show her, and as we were leaving I sent a text to a few people to show them, too. We were getting on the freeway and I received a few responses, I happened to look down at the phone for a second and when I looked up I only had a second to see the giant piece of sheet metal hanging out into my lane from the shoulder (while Adam took the same moment to yell at me from the passenger seat) and jerk the wheel only slightly out of the way for fear of side-swiping the car in the next lane! The first thing I thought, and the first thing out his mouth, was..."See! That's why you don't text and drive!!!!"

Of course, I had only had a few moments to pull the car over onto the shoulder, because I was already on the rim. The scary part was that we were on a curved freeway bridge...thankfully, Adam, amidst his rant, got out and put on the donut spare. He was filthy, full of asphalt, and scraped from being shoved against the shoulder wall while performing this task, again, while 18 wheelers were cruising by without getting into the next lane. I didn't even blink when I saw the asphalt and grime get onto my clean carpet and car seat upholstery, because really, what was I going to say?

After all that, I was ready to fire Chevy from my life, because after all the money I spent on buying a nice crossover SUV, Chevy Traverse, I was told I had to pay more for a special order wheel because of a specific bolt pattern they put on this vehicle, and you guessed it! The tire would be special order, too, because noone in town carried it because it was specific to that rim. So next time you buy a vehicle, consider making sure your local area tire companies carry the tires.

Also, don't text and drive...expensive lesson learned.
